The Ballard Fjord Horse Committee
Last year I moved back into my father's childhood neighborhood, Ballard. So in 2006, for the first time in my life, I stood on NW Market Street and watched the Syttende Mai parade pass by. Although I was dazzled by the red, white, and blue flags and the beautiful bunads, my heart sank when I realized that not one single Norwegian Fjord horse had passed. I thought it was such a shame to have a Norwegian parade without Norwegian horses.
Soon after, I spoke with friends (and family) and realized that I was not the only one who thought the parade could use a few of our stout, furry, friends. And so was formed the Ballard Fjord Horse Committee.
